Position: Fellow (Econ)

Location: New Delhi (on-site)

About Us: Esya Centre's mission is to generate empirical research and inform thought leadership to catalyze new policy constructs for the future. It simultaneously aims to build institutional capacities to generate ideas that enjoin the triad of people, innovation, and value, consequently helping reimagine the public policy discourse in India.

Role: You will leverage your expertise in economics to analyze complex public policy issues, conduct high-quality research, and provide actionable insights. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams specialized across domains, including competition / antitrust, intellectual property, digital markets, and industrial policy.

Key Responsibilities:

Research & Analysis:

- Conduct research on economic policies related to innovation-driven markets; evaluate the implications of proposed policies and regulations, including their effects on consumers, competition, and innovation

- Develop and utilize econometric models, simulations and data analyses to understand the impact of policy changes on markets and broader economic outcomes

- Produce research reports, policy briefs, and academic papers for external audiences

- Translate research findings into policy recommendations

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

- Work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, including academic institutions and industry members

- Represent the organization in policy discussions, panels, and conferences, communicating complex economic findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

Thought Leadership:

- Monitor global trends and contribute to the organisation's thought leadership efforts

- Engage with the broader research community, staying abreast of new methodologies and theoretical advances in economics as applied to policy

Qualifications

- PhD or MS in Economics, plus three years of relevant experience, with a strong focus on applied economics and econometrics (minimum requirement)

- Proven expertise in economic modelling, quantitative analysis, and a foundation in microeconomics, industrial organisation, or public economics

- Some background in technology, digital markets, or related areas is preferred

- Proficiency in at least one econometric and statistical software such as R, Stata or Python

- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex economic concepts to diverse audiences

- Demonstrated ability to publish high-quality research, ideally with experience in both academic and policy-oriented outputs

Compensation: Competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience
